So, it’s true that the Grammy awarding winning punk trio is planning to release a live CD/DVD album titled “Awesome As F**k” on March 22, 2011. The album will feature a CD of live music performed during the band’s “21st Century Breakdown World Tour” as well as a DVD showing them perform at different venues during the entire concert series.
The track list contains mainly songs off the band’s 2009 album, “21st Century Breakdown”, a few of their “American Idiot” hits as well as in addition to some of their older work. However, what’s really got me and every other die-hard Green Day excited is the inclusion of the infamous “Cigarettes And Valentines” song.
To those who may not know, it was a couple of years after releasing their album “Warning”, that Green Day went to work crafting a new album titled “Cigarettes And Valentines”. However, it was never released because the master tracks were reportedly “stolen”. Rather than rerecord the entire album from scratch, Billie Joe and the gang instead went to work creating another album which would later become “American Idiot”. The song “Cigarettes And Valentines” along with a few others off that album called “Olivia” and “Stay The Night” have been performed live at some venues. Sadly, yours truly hasn’t heard these songs performed any venues he went to, but I am eagerly waiting for this album to drop next month just to hear “Cigarettes And Valentines”!
Actually, I may not have to wait that long to do that. All I can say is thank God for YouTube because I was lucky enough to find video of Green Day performing “Cigarettes And Valentines”! Go ahead and take a look one of the greatest rock bands out there doing what they do best, putting on an epic performance!
I’ve seen these guys perform three times, so far! I first saw them play at Central Park as part of Good Morning America’s summer concert series back in May ‘09 and then saw them at Madison Square Garden that summer (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!). I also saw them perform last summer at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ (Good show, but not as great as MSG!). They’re definitely one of the best rock bands to see live and certainty the most fun!
